Fortunately for the lot of you, Turner buttons are very easy to replace, and fairly inexpensive to boot.

Welcome to the Furch family, they are incredible instruments!
They also do some cool things like 9 string acoustics (which is the E, B, G, strings doubled in 12 string fashion, but the lower 3 are left alone) I know for me I really like 80/20 on my Euro/Coco GA. But have fun with string shopping. I think the best cheap place to start is John Pearse, they sound incredible! (Just don't last for my body chemistry). |

They certainly used to use metal on the lower range models - my OM 22 came with metal buttons but I changed them to tortoiseshell as I don’t like metal much.

I wouldn't equate non-metal tuner buttons to lower end models. If you look at what it costs to replace those buttons (from Schaller, Gotoh, etc.) there isn't really a significant cost difference, and in some wood cases, they cost more.
My M32 came with metal Schaller buttons (gold) which over the years, due to me not wiping them down regularly, have started to show a little pitting due to hand sweat. I've used simichrome to restore the luster, but on the low-E button I can still feel a little pitting. My new D32 came with ebony buttons (as do most new Lakewoods now) and they are beautiful IMO and I actually prefer the feel of those to the metal ones on my M32 (even before the pitting). My 914 came with vintage style Gotoh antique gold tuners, and those are probably my favorite. Not shiny gold, and 21:1 ratio is awesome in that it's easier for me to finely tune it to pitch. And the vintage shape of the tuner buttons are very cool. I like them so much I purchased another set from LMI to put on my M32. As others note: it's super easy to change the buttons, and not cost-prohibitive. Heck, changing out the entire tuning system to Gotoh 510 21:1 cost me only $130. Changing buttons would have cost around $30-$40 IIRC (maybe around $5/$6 each?)

I think it depends on the model. My wife’s OM23sf has the gold tuners and tortoiseshell buttons and it looks great. My 12-string Green Plus dread has metal and looks great too. My OM34sr has the aged-look open back but it is from the vintage range.

Many congrats on your new Furch! Those are great models, a friend has one (a left handed player so I couldn't play it!) and it made me think I might be interested in an OM, which had never occurred to me before.
Those Cedar over Rosewood Furch are incredible (I have played the dreadnought model). The cases are great - my Furch is a jumbo maple 24 series and it has a massive Hiscox case to fit it which is Furch branded, yes this is a very nice touch. I managed to snag a new (and at a bargain price) Yamaha branded Hiscox case last year just being sold on its own, which fits my LL and LJ models. |

Those cases are amazing aren’t they! I know what you mean about OMs; their OM models were what turned us on to the brand.

Congratulations on the new Furch!! Just make sure you're sitting down when you order the Rainbow Series. Good news is you can pick out EXACTLY what you want. Bad news is your credit card is going to smoke. My custom Rainbow 12 string was just about $5k after I got the VAT back (bought in Prague)
