Talking NGD: Gibson J15

So I've Spent the last week or so with my new guitar. And I must say, It's amazing! I cant put it down. The sound is deep, and warm on the low end and the highs are perfect. If anyone is considering one, just get it. Solid wood, American made, Native non-endangered woods, gloss finish, an awesome case, and a fresh set of strings all included for 1,500 dollars. Is there another guitar maker out there that is offering this level of value? I never thought I would suggest that Gibson offers bang for the buck but I think this guitar is a great step in a good direction. I wont say that it competes with something like a J45 or an AJ but its darn close. Best sounding piece of wood I've ever owned!

Congratulations they are fabulous guitars at an amazing price point. I disagree about them not competing with a J-45 or AJ. I just see them as a variation of a round shouldered Gibson.

Dodge, I totally agree, I just didn't want to start a "which guitar is better" war. Plus i admit that I hold the J45 on a bit of a pedestal in my own mind.

Yep. Great guitars. Congrats!

I loved mine...but ended up trading it in for a 45 after a few months. Wish I could have kept them both, but my budget doesn't stretch that far.

I think I recorded that particular track with the J15. The recording quality through those cheap mic's I used does not do the guitar justice

I have never been much of a Gibson fan, but the J-15 has changed my mind. Played one at GC against other models such as the J-35 and J-45 and the J-15 was the clear winner, and won over several other models of Martins and Taylors. I'm not sure how to describe the tone other than it was richer and deeper than mahogany and clearer than rosewood. And then there is the price. Heck of a guitar. The only downside for me was the neck seemed a little chunkier than I like and I'm not a huge fan of the pickguard, but all in all I would buy one in an instant if I was looking for another guitar. In fact if I do buy another guitar, it will likely be the J-15. Wish they made more of them in the sunburst model because it would be a done deal.

Yeah, I'd buy a second one if they came in a sunburst, and never worry about ever buying a J45. probably why Gibson has yet to do a burst on one of these, to my knowledge.

Music Villa in Bozeman had a sunburst J-15 a couple months ago. I have no idea how many were made with a burst.
