Default NGD - One of a kind

John Allison finally finished up this all-mahogany single 0 for me and I picked it up this morning.

Here's John teasing me with the guitar last week: the strings were on but he was about to take them off and do the final setup.

It's the only all-hog he's ever done and it exceeded both of our expectations. He has forbidden me to sell it unless I offer it to him first. Not to worry: I don't expect it will be going anywhere. I'll try to get some sound bites to share with you once I play it in some.

I haven't had the chance to play it much yet, but I am rather shocked to find that it really shines in . . . bluegrass flatpicking! I was hoping it would do well with fingerstyle blues (I won't know until I actually learn to play some) and maybe old coffee house folk stuff, but I think it's going to tear it up doing fiddle tunes. Who woulda thunk it?

I love the simplicity. Appears to be a satin finish, no bindings, no fluff. My kind of music maker. Pure functionality.

Go Get Em!

Thanks! It's a varnish finish, hand-rubbed. John tells me that you can polish out scuffs with a paper towel. I imagine that I'll be mojo-ing it up pretty soon - we'll see how far paper towels will take me!

Excellent, congrats!! I would love to own an Allison guitar one day.

Besides what others will say, I’ll note that the logo /headstock really fits well with the rest of the appointments.

He did some nice work on my Texan a few years ago. Great guy and super-talented.

Thanks, y'all. I took a photo last night to help explain to a friend why I would have two guitars by the same builder. So Little Al met Big Al for the first time:

I repeat and reiterate Hammer40's request that you upload some audio. I really really really want to hear what an all-hog 0 of that caliber sounds like. Can it possibly sound as good as it looks?
