I believe your saddle is going to be quite high.
Multiply desired 12th fret action by 2, and add this measurement to the height of the straight edge above the bridge. This will give you near your finished saddle height (without taking in consideration the top deflection/deformation, which may not move much at all in fact). For good tone and longevity, you usually want the saddle to be between about 2 and 4 mm above the bridge. Higher and you put too much torque on the bridge, stressing the top unduly and creating a "tight" feel and tone that emphasizes high overtones but loses bass response. A nice setup for a steel string is about 2mm action (or just shy of it) on the high E, progressively higher to 2.25 to 2.5mm on the low E. Good luck!

On the Mortise and tenon routine/pic set, you illustrate a mahogany shim. Where does it go? |

The shim is glued between one of the "mortise cheeks" and the neck block.
The part of the neck with glue on it in photo 17 here: http://fingerlakesguitarrepair.com/m...on-neck-reset/ Sometimes all you need is a thin plane-shaving. On other occasions a slightly thicker shim is needed. It all depends on how good the original fit was and how clean your chisel cuts are that remove the old glue. |
