Sigma Guitar 12 string year?
I came across a Sigma Guitar 12 string and was wondering around what year it was made. Here is the label info:
Model DM12-3 serial no. SKO94155 Purple label Made in Korea. Thanks for the help.

Here's a link to an older AGF thread asking the same.
The link provided on post #4 might be helpful. https://www.acousticguitarforum.com/...d.php?t=419684

Unfortunately, except for the U.S. assembled models DR28-N and DR35-N (1981 and 1982) Sigma serial #'s pretty much mean nothing. The DM12-3 was listed in the Oct 1985 Sigma catalog. It was not listed in the 1992 Sigma catalog. (Those are the only 2 Sigma catalogs I have) Since your label says Korea it is safe to assume it was made in 1984 (Production in Korea in 1984) or thereafter.
The 3 series guitars (from the catalog) "Designed specifically for beginning acoustic players, '3 Series' Dreadnaught guitars offer quality construction at an affordable price. Crafted to Martin Guitar Company specifications, these guitars are covered by a one year warranty. Each guitar features a spruce top, mahogany back and sides, ebonized fingerboard and bridge, chrome enclosed tuning machines, and a fully adjustable truss rod." Hope this helps. |

Quote:
Quick deconstruction of Sigma model terminology: 1) In "DM12-3," the D stands for dreadnought; M designates mahogany back and sides (laminated, of course); 12 means 12-string; and 3 pertains to the grade (quality) of wood used. 2) Sigma serial numbers remain mostly useless for helping to establish a specific year of instrument production, though here one could naturally speculate that that SK designates South Korea--or, perhaps Sigma Korea; the O is a mysterious standard Sigma filler frequently observed in 8-digit serial numbers. 3) That purple label means only that the Sigma was produced anywhere from 1972 onward. 4) Made in Korea: The Sigma guitars were manufactured in Korea exclusively from 1984 to 1994.
