Default A great inexpensive string

Does anyone else love the plain ole standard Martin 80/20 strings like I do?
Man, I really like the M140, M240 strings. I think the tone and feel are excellent, and they're CHEAP.

I'm a big fan of John Pearse strings, I think their phosphor bronze strings are the best, but the standard Martin 80/20 strings are excellent in my view.

I know some of you probably think they don't last very long, but to me they last as long as any uncoated string.

I do like the Martin Acoustic strings but prefer the D’Addario EJ’s more. Both are great values.

I started to use plain Martin 80/20 M140 about one year ago, I put them on Seagull M6 Gloss made in 2004 (spruce top, hog lam b&s, short scale) and liked them much better that PB strings on this guitar.

I bought them in bulk, 10 sets, very cheap. Will try these on my other two guitars when I will need to change strings.

So far, I settled on two types, both Martin - 80/20 and Retros. No other types of strings needed.

I use the cheap Martin 80/20 strings on my 12 string guitars. These are the best sounding strings I can find so far (...bright and chimey). I also tried the expensive Lifespan set but I didn't like the tone (...far too warm and lush).

You can always find good deals on the popular D'addario sets, i.e EJ16 and EJ24, which are below the Martin price point.

I'm really liking the SP line for my new Seagull. Going to try out the 80/20's next set. Still experimenting

They happen to be on sale at Musician’s Friend for $3.49 a set and you might get an additional 25% off if the coupon code applies.

I have yet to try any Martin strings. They seem to be pretty popular though. I did order a set of the Marquis PB's to try out. They actually just arrived and I'm looking forward to stringing them up.

I used to play the M140s, they do sound good.
Don't last long for me though, so coated strings are cheaper (much cheaper actually) in the long run

Default Love That Shimmer

I have the M140s on my FG800 right now. I was thinking that these are probably all I will ever really need. I like the shimmer of the trebles and the bass has a throaty sound that stands out. Probably has as much to do with the guitar build as well as the strings though. At any rate I like them and will most likely stick with them. My Seagull has Elixir PBs on it, which sound good, but I will probably try the M140s when it's time for a change. On the Yammy the trebles have a bit more sparkle than my Seagull does.

I actually have a set of Martin 80/20 on my Gibson dread that Ive had on since January. They obviously need to be changed now, but they still don’t sound bad. It’s the one with the red on the ball end, I think that’s the Marquis but I could be wrong.

I use plain ol' Martin M540 PB's 12 to 54 on all my guitars...warm, phat and I like the .54 E and .25 G strings. Love 'em and they are cheap!
