I'm a strummer and generally use picks between .88 and 1.0, with different materials depending on which guitar and what song I'm playing.

Feel precisely the same way. Above 75mm dulls the sound for me, particularly in working single notes (geographically) down the neck. Will use .60mm picks; but am currently using D'Addario Classic .70 mm and PickBoy T-shell Classic .75mm. Will for a thicker sound go to D'addario Cortex .70 (prefer this to the Ultex .73.) Occasionally go to a nylon for a more rounded attack.

1.00mm is my preference so I'm using a Blue Chip Kenny Smith 40 or TPR 40, and before that a 1.00mm Wegen Dipper.

Just an FYI: Blue Chip has a 30-day return policy that they stand by 100%. It might changed the way you look at picks for the rest of your life. It sure did to me. scott |

Now that I'm a spoiled-rotten CLP owner, my two favorite picks are .75 and 1.0. I frequently borrow a CLP that is 1.15 and that's OK too, but I prefer the .75--1.0 range. Works fine for me.

I strum. I make my own picks. I prefer thin picks.

I'm with Brucebubs on this, I love the nylon picks. Bought some Dunlops Nylon USA about 30 years ago and they're still good, although the tip is somewhat rounder now. My preferred thickness around .88mm
I also made a collection myself in various thicknesses from expired pincards and such, but they all have the Dunlop shape. Those are for emergency occasions which don't really happen too often. Ludwig Last edited by Von Beerhofen; 06-26-2018 at 01:47 PM. |
