Gibson ES-335 Satin Custom
I'm looking at a Gibson ES-335 Custom Satin. The guitar is a 2011 and comes with a COA. The guitar has been polished to a sheen like a gloss. It also does not have fret board bindings. Kind of like a J-45 workhorse of the electric world, if you will. Was wondering if anyone would know if polishing a Satin guitar with a COA would actually increase or decrease the value? Or not effect it at all? Going to look at it this weekend. The guitar is not a Studio version and is equipped with 57 Classic pickups. Which I actually kind of like. I currently have a Les Paul Traditional but I'm not bonding with the 50's neck. Also not a fan of the 9+lbs. It sounds amazing, just seems heavy and clumsy compared to something lighter.

I doubt it would help the value, but if you're buying it that's a good thing.
A 335 with '57 classics is a nice combination. Good luck! |

Im not sure about resale value however if tyou bought it and tried to sell it to me i would prefer the glossier look to satin and it would make the deal more likely for me. I recently traded my acoustic for a fender billy corgan signature strat which was satin nitro finish which i belive to be like the highway ine models. I polished it up to a great gloss finish and tooke the pretty poor finish to a stunning one.

I'm no expert nor much of a Gibson fan overall, but either way, I wouldn't touch the finish. (My Martin DM Mahogany Dreadnought has a satin finish and the neck on my Fender Stratocaster has a satin finish also and I've never thought about sanding either back and applying lacquer nor do I have the expertise to do the job myself).
I'd be just enjoying the guitar as is, but my opinion only of course. |

It would affect value if it was a a historic reissue with the VOS option.
And another vote here for a 335 with classic 57’ pickups. I have one of them a t it is my favorite electric guitar. Note: these gibson semi hollow guitars seem sensitive to humidity changes like acoustic guitars. I keep mine humidified inside the case.

335 Satin
Well I got the new girl home Sunday. Gave her a spit shine this evening and a new set of strings and a set up. It makes no difference if it's a little depreciated. It's not an expensive reissue. But it's nice! And it will be a great player for years to come. Glad I brought it home!

Beautiful ES-335! One of my favorite guitars. If this were mine I'd put Gibson gold PU covers on it.

These guitars are so amazing and beautiful. Gotta get a red 335 at some point in your life!
I have one in red, but it is a lefty. Different pickups though and it has a bound neck. It is my favorite electric guitar.

Congrats! Nice guitar. I still have my ES-335-TDC, bought new in 1966. Definitely a classic. Enjoy!
