I've only ever backed out of one buy.
A Gibson SJ-200 in the USA. I said 'OK' then 1/2 hour later told them to cancel that after I carefully examined all the pictures again and noticed there was clearly no break angle over the saddle.

Yes, I play.
Based on things I read on this forum, there seems to be a lot of players that frequently want to have it both ways. Whatever it may be, make a decision and live by it. Have I ever bought something and regreted it. Yes. Have I ever sold something and regreted it? Yes. It is part of life. Hopefully, we learn. |

I think if one shook hands, or online equivalent, one ought to go through with deal.
I did sell a guitar once. When I dug out the case, it was all moldy. I sent the guy his money back, and added $25 for his trouble. Probably could have found another case. He was OK with it. |

Of course. I did say it’s not right didn’t I? Honestly is the best policy and I don’t see why one would lie in that situation. The buyer would understand.

Ive got nothing new to add to the ethical question, the seller will have to decide what side of that discussion they want to live with. Thought I'd comment on the seller's remorse part; maybe it will help the OP decide.
Why did you put it up for sale to begin with if it's "a keeper"? Unless it's for financial need I can only guess you didn't consider it a keeper when you listed it. Everyone at some point goes through buyers/sellers remorse in all sorts of situations, not just guitars. When I'm faced with last minute remorse I try to remind myself that -provided it wasn't a spur of the moment thing- I got to that decision after enough careful thought that I should trust my initial decision and not "heat of last minute" emotions. If you've thought about selling this guitar for a while (weeks? months?) it probably is "missing something" for you (i.e., not a keeper). Ask or remind yourself why you put it up for sale to begin with. Worse case: if you sell & end up regretting it...well unless its a family heirloom, you can likely find something that better suits you anyway PS: Last year I sold my longest owned guitar after realizing I just didn't play it anymore and thought it should be in the hands of someone that would appreciate/play it. Yeh, I feel an infrequent pang of regret once in a while, but still know it was the right call.

I sold a great Gibby J45-TV a year or two back. Right before I cleaned and set it in the case for shipment. I was sad. This guitar was supremely a perfect singer songwriter solo performance guitar that i stopped using a year earlier so I thigh I would sell it. I regretted the whole 1/2 hour getting it ready to ship. I even crafter a "i'm sorry but I have wrote many songs on this and I have to back out of our transaction. But I didn't send the email. I sent my amazing tool away. A few months later I asked if he ever wanted to sell it back to please keep my contact. He just replied" This things a cannon". Which I already knew and have never heard back.
So I still had two singer songwriter performance solo acoustics but they didn't quite have the huge sweet spot of right hand dynamics. So I bought 3 TV's in the last year. Finally, I got a great one. As good as the one I regrettably sold. Try not to sell a comfortable guitar that is so entrusted, if you can help it. If you are pursuing different guitars for different tunings, any number of genres, or styles try to keep the one(s) that are the real you even if it hasn't been played for a while. |

To me, this thread highlights why I wouldn't do business through the AGF as my grandfather always used to say don't business with friends or family. You add money and people get weird. Many of you seem like wonderful people yet you're out here questioning people's character and swearing never to do business with them over one single post.
No one is talking about willfully deceiving someone it's a discussion of when is a transaction guaranteed and most seem to agree it's when the item is handed over for the money. They aren't setting out at the beginning to hurt your feelings, there's no maliciousness to their actions, chill. At the end of the day, it's one single transaction, not the cornerstone of your friendship with the person.
