Default the happ-iest town in the whole USA

Boulder, Colorado, sez National Geographic magazine.

I dunno. Lotsa snow & tourists is my image of the place.

Hmmm. First I never find Boulder "tourist" busy. It's a great place and, no, not "skipidty do dah" all the time. It's a "destination city" as it's lodged up against the foothills to the continental divide. It's gorgeous and pretty laid back. It's a lot like Santa Barbara, CA. It's expensive, out of the way and people who come there and stay do so because they love the place (like SB). Consequently you have a small city with inhabitants who are there because of choice. That makes for happy people. Very highly educated and informed people who love Boulder. Something every city should aspire to. There is snow but not as much as Vermont, Maine or parts of Massachusetts. It' up against the foothills, mountains so much of the snow passes over the city to the plains.

Maybe it is just the combo of being at 5000 ft and Nat Geo did the survey interviews just outside the dispensary

I think Boulder would be a lovely place to live. Then again, I'm pretty happy where we currently live.

I must say that in the midst of summer tourist season when the roads are clogged here, I don't like it quite so much. But compared to Boulder, we are mostly off the beaten track except for the huge traffic going to the ocean beaches on the long weekends. I try to stay off highway 101 during the height of the tourist season.

Boulder is my hometown - I was born and raised there. Not a day goes by that I don't think about moving back. Sure, its grown and changed over the last 20 years but what place with lots to offer hasn't? It is an absolutely fantastic place to live and the weather is the big secret there - more sunshine than southern California each year and you can play golf in a short sleeved shirt every month of the year if you time it right.

I'm lucky my parents still live there so I can get back a few times each year to visit. I've been homesick for 20 years - I love the place.

Not a surprise.

It doesn't seem much more of a tourist place than other nice campus towns. I have cousins with kids same age as mine who raised or are raising them in Boulder and other popular front rage places. CO's laws aren't wrecking them, and one of those kids is right about how the rest of the nation would do well to have a number of elements more like CO.

At last visit one of those kids was able to ride a bike to a Denver area train station to go to a sports event in Boulder car-free. It's nice to not see so many overweight people when we visit. When we were in and near Fruita and Grand Junction it was clear not being overweight wasn't just for higher demographics.

The tollways to address sprawl seem like a good idea. Of course my friends and relatives who've not been part of that front range sprawl are quicker to agree with it than a few who've moved rather far out.

The cousin who bought a house in Boulder in the 1980s, mostly rented it, and sold it in more recent times was really happy about that.

One of the places I dream of living in. Visited in 1966 as a teenager and was totally taken by the place. Stayed in a house on the side of a hill overlooking the orange-roofed buildings of the university. I wanted to go there but, alas, my parents weren't wealthy enough and I wasn't smart enough.

The song is "Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah" from the Disney Film "Song of the South"

Incorrecto, my friend. But thank you for playing, and please accept a lifetime supply of Turtle Wax as a consolation prize.

I guess it's time for another hint. Ahem:

Well, there seem to be a lot of Boulder fans here - but aren't there any Fargo fans?

I LOVE Boulder, CO!

Went to college there 1964- '68, daughter graduated from there in 1993, and met my wife there. Nothing not to love about Boulder!

There are very few places in the US I'd consider moving to other than Northern California, but Boulder is at the top of that very short list. Fantastic town!
