Helix acoustic patch - what do you think?
This is my Martin w/Fishman Matrix Infinity into a Helix Stomp. I'm using an IR of a Martin guitar. First you'll hear the piezo pickup, and then I turn on the Helix.
How does it sound to you? Thanks! https://soundcloud.com/spn-weekend/helix-patch Last edited by niteflyguy; 07-17-2019 at 05:01 PM. |

The Helix definitely helps to make the tone much more respectable.

Thanks! I've been experimenting, but the blend of the recording is 35% IR and 65% piezo.

Here's another example. This one is Helix only, with 50% IR. Strumming and fingerpicking. Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

Thanks for posting these samples. Both patches sound nice and are a big improvement on the piezo alone imo.
Personally I'd like to hear less low end to allow more room for the mids and top end. The Helix is great for dialing in your eq and much will depend on your intended use........live performance or recording with/without other instruments. I've just started using a Stomp myself and have been experimenting with some free IRs I found around the net.....I'd be interested to know which IR you are using. |

What IR are you using? I like it. Oh, Helix firmware 2.8 is out today.

https://www.3sigmaaudio.com/acoustic-impulses/ My hope is to upgrade my sound without the expense of an Aura Spectrum or Tonedexter. Or replacing pickups. I already owned the HX Stomp because I use it when I play electric guitar in my band. BTW, on Soundcloud I hear a very slight "phasey" quality to the sound. That isn't the case with the original sound, only when it plays on soundcloud. Maybe it's because I uploaded an MP3 and they condensed more.. |

Good input. I boosted the low end by 1 db, but I probably don't need that.

I think they all sound good. Your last 100% sample sounds better than what I would have expected from the previous samples. To me it sounds very much like when I use my ToneDexter and HX Stomp together. I think the TD is one of the most innovative pieces of gear to hit the market, but without doing the IR file transfer that Cuki describes, downloading an IR from another source may work well for most players.
It would be nice to keep the footprint smaller if you can get away from having the TD. On your board. One other thought though is that the TD is an excellent preamp on its own. I use it right now for my T5 with an added JJB pickup and on an empty slot so no IR. All in all, each of those samples sound better to me with the IR. The blend would depend on your venue and what tone you are looking for. Sometimes I just like the raw pickup tone of the K&K pm, without the TD. Nice work and thanks for sharing. |
