I'm coming to this discussion a little late in the day (literally in my case). I bought myself a used AC4tv about a year ago and love it. It has even less flexibility than the C1 - it has only a volume control, no separate gain though it does have a power switch which means I can get screaming distortion if I want to without waking the neighbours, and it sounds great. At some point I'm going to swap out the preamp tube for a 12AT7 which I am assured will give me more gain/volume before breakup but I haven't got around to it yet.

It was a couldn't-pass-it-up purchase so I didn't compare it to other similar low wattage tube amps. Its size and sound suits me fine - it was intended as a rehearsal amp for the house and it does a great job without taking up much room.

Edit: just saw that you've ordered an amp already! Enjoy, and let us know what you think. And I agree with others who say that JJ tubes are the way to go - I have a good friend who makes and sells his own design point-to-point amps and he likes them very much.

The Kustom 1x12 cabinet arrived. Ordered Tung-Sol 5881 and 12AX7's to replace the OEM tubes.

So what do you think of the amp and the cabinet?

I truly like the "warmth" that the tube head provides. The Kustom cabinet is adequate for my purposes. I don't perform and for home use I think this works for me. Someone that has a better ear and more experience may not think so.
