One thing I would change on the design of the OS Emeralds would be to finish the inside of the sound hole. That expanse of raw unfinished carbon weave just doesn't look right to me next to the beautifully finished top and sides - it's distracting, and detracts from the beauty of the guitar. At the very least I would suggest a flat black paint. Not the whole inside obviously, just enough so that you don't notice the inside at all.

I played the nylon version of this guitar and I was kind of taken back looking at that huge hole looking right up at me. The Doubleneck is similar but closed on the side. My first impressions were I liked the Doubleneck version of the upper soundhole better. But I am getting this guitar for a week so I am anxious to see how I like it. To me the weave is not an issue it is a black color and is very neatly done inside. Alistair pushes the envelope and that soundhole is him doing just that. You have to love that about him.

Well Alistair is just about ready to send off my x20 that I did in the amber weave over the whole guitar.....I will try not to focus on the soundhole.

"amber weave over the whole guitar"

You do plan to post pictures, right? I think this is the Emerald finish I'd be most interested in.

I agree I promise not to look down the sound hole if you post pics.

Consider it done as soon as it hits our shores.....guessing about 10 days. I also know a "Woody" x20 will be on its way at the same time...I will ask JimK to put up pics of that as well.

I really differ on the look inside the sound hole of the Emeralds. I LOVE the look of mine and don't feel it is distracting in the least. It's black weave, extremely clean and neatly done, smooth to the touch. The weave matches the weave on the top except for the color. It's so dark it just doesn't stand out at all.

I wouldn't want it painted inside anymore than I would want the inside of my old wood guitars painted over just because they were raw wood inside and had no gloss finish. I never was distracted by the raw wood interiors, occasional extra glue and so forth, even though they were less neat than my Emerald.

Anyway, we each have different tastes when it comes to appearance, I guess.

Hey, nice to see you all over here on the other side of the 'net...

I love the intellectual honesty of the soundhole. There's kind of an inevitability to it, when you look at the equation: offset soundhole + side toneport + construction technique that is not dependent on kerfing around the top = the X20's mono-soundhole.

And I also like the fact that it looks like the mouth of a carnivorous plant... just sayin'.
