Update:
For Newtone acoustic stock, we are down to Nickel 9-42 and Heritage singles. In early 2018 on our final order from Newtone we bought A LOT to last a while, but didn't last as long as we projected.
For the USA, buying direct from Newtone is the only option as stock sells out.

I don’t think he was claiming to be perfect, just patient. Not a bad trait.

One other advantage of ordering from Newtone directly at the moment is price:
I compared 2 Newtone MC 12-54 + shipping from Newtone with a a well-known US purveyor of same with stock. After cheapest shipping, you save $10 over all from Newtone.

Just fyi.

I buy direct as I am in Australia, but in the US you can also buy from Guitar Gallery in Tn. I think there is another post in this thread that compares current pricing.

I'm hoping that there are more dissatisfied customers that go elsewhere so that I don't have to wait so long for my favourite strings. This is one situation where patience definitely pays off. Great strings! I love Newtone.

I just received my set yesterday. They were postmarked 1/19/19 from the UK. I ordered them on 12/24/18, so allowing for the holiday it isn't all that bad. When the set of GHS are done on my Avalon these are going on.

I ordered a set of Heritage on Mon 21st, and received them today, Wed 23rd, which is pretty good going. Granted, they're not a custom set, but I would always plan well ahead for anything not off-the-shelf etc.

This is what I don’t understand - if you order 6 single strings would this count as a custom set? They must have stocks of pre made single strings?? I can only think my order went astray.

Good question. I guess they must have pre-made full sets (Masterclass, Heritage etc.) that they can dispatch as and when they get orders, not least because these will be their bread and butter etc. It's tempting to think that they must have a 'stash' of each type of single string they make, that they could just 'pick and mix' from for custom orders, but I guess they must literally make them to order. It is a VERY small operation, and hand-winding strings must be time consuming, so I guess they have to supply as and when there's demand...?

Their 'Custom' sets are able go way beyond just different string diameters. By varying the ratios of core-to-wrap gauges, they are able to produce sets for any tuning in pretty much any overall gauge you want.

For instance, some years ago, I was exploring the C-Modal tuning - CGCGCD - and they made me four sets of strings for that tuning which were 12-54 gauges, and which felt and played like a light 12-54 set in standard tuning.

I think it's very important to remember that Newtone aren't a high-volume, 'standard' string producer, they are a one- or two-man, low-volume, specialised, custom manufacturer. If someone wants next-day delivery of standard strings 'off the shelf', D'Addario, Elixir, CF Martin, John Pearse, and many others cater for that market via their network of distributors and retailers. But if you want customised strings, hand-made sets manufactured order-by-order in the same rotation as orders are received, Newtone are excellent. Just be prepared to be patient!

The usual disclaimers apply......IMHO, YMMV etc.
