Been having a think of who my favourite unknown guitarists are; it's tough to find people who are not even widely known in guitar circles.
For electric, it would have to be Chris Fry of Welsh prog band, Magenta. I couldn't find a decent video of 'Anger', which is one of his masterpieces, but here are a couple of pretty representative clips of him in action. (I was present when the second was filmed - about 10' away from Chris!) An acoustic (almost) unknown was really easy: Huw Williams. It took a lot more work to find any video of him as he and Tony stopped touring before the digital age, but he and Martin Simpson are without doubt the greatest influences on my acoustic playing. Here's a rough clip I found of a song more usually associated with Fairport Convention, who covered quite a few of his tunes. |

Since the OP said not that well known I'll go with a guy who I'm blessed to have as a guitar teacher, Dave Beegle.

Saw him in 1968. Quite a talent. Burned very bright for too short a time.

Two that come to mind that I haven't seen posted yet atr
Molly Tuttle Jake Workman. Molly is fast becoming well known in her own right. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0lpQi1jfcms Jake has been in Ricky Skagg's bans for the past 2 years or so. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Ve60F-gp60 Both are great flatpickers.

J. Patrick Lombardi and Nina Gerber. Seriously spectacularly subtle.

Wanted to first off thank the OP for this thread. I'm going to have to come back and click on a whole bunch of links and vids since there are names I want to check out in more detail. Lots of names I know but many I don't. The real value of a post like this.
And, to keep my post on topic I'd like to suggest Tom Rush who was a major influence on my early years. Wonderful interpreter of songs but an excellent guitarist as well. Not really in the category of unknown [but there have been others above] is Bruce Cockburn whose instrumentals are what I like most - an amazing player |

Not sure if Bruce qualifies as unknown, but his playing is below the radar of a larger audience, and unique in the folk/jazz acoustic approach he brings. He's been a huge influence, and I am psyched I have tix to see him this Sunday in Boulder!

I'm a very late bloomer in the world of music. I don't have any favorites and I don't follow anyone. I run across a song now and then that I like for one reason or another and will look into the artist to see if they have more material that I would like.
I host an open mic and a player recently introduced me to a song, Grindstone by Tyler Childers. I don't know how well known Tyler Childers is but I am enjoying listening to this song and discovering others from him and from a genera of music that I hadn't gotten into before.

I always think of Mick Ronson, but perhaps he is too well known.

Agree. These three are well-known in their genres, but scarcely known outside that. I've seen Andy a few times recently and he smokes and Gordon was excellent too when I saw him earlier this year - never realised 'Heartsong' was quite so fast till I saw it. |

I haven't seen Cory Seznec mentioned here, so I'm adding him to the list. He lives in France currently but will be in the US this summer. Tremendous picker and much of his work is rhythmically stunning. For instance, his version of Corrina Corrina:
