Elly Inspire
Final update....I finally received a refund from this "company" and used it to purchase a Lowden 025c...Rosewood back and sides and cedar top. One fine guitar and backed by a reputable company. Lesson learned.
I should be taking delivery on my Elly "Inspire" custom build this month. Claro Walnut back and sides....Sinker Cedar top...Asian Pheasantwood fingerboard. Elly is a new and innovative company out of New Hampshire. Been a year now.... Any others?? Update...This build was sort of completed but due to circumstances I cancelled the guitar. As far as I know it was completed and sold. Last edited by Rafer; 09-05-2016 at 11:32 AM. Reason: update info |

Ken Hooper is building a 12 Fret Dread based on John Arnold's measurements of Norman Blake's 1933 Martin D-28 this summer. John Arnold, Per Markham, and possibly others, have built guitars based on the same specs with great results. I'm pretty excited.
I previously owned a Hooper D28 with a Carpathian Spruce Top and Honduran Rosewood back and sides that I loved the tone of (just wasn't comfortable with the specs and neck), so I'm leaning towards the same tonewoods. However, I already own a few Rosewood guitars that I intend to hang onto long term and could use a little more versatility. I'm pretty enamored with the tone of John Arnold's guitar, made with white oak. Ken also does a pretty darn good job with Mahogany, so nothing is set in stone yet. Either way, I'm really looking forward to the process. Ken is a great guy and I've never commissioned a build before. Should be a lot of fun!

I have a bouzouki being built in Australia by Jack Spira. Not sure when it will arrive here in NY, but it shouldn't be too long now.
Here's the build thread: http://www.acousticguitarforum.com/f...d.php?t=425993

Volcanic Appeasment
Thank you-- fingers and toes are crossed!
I have done everything I can to appease the Guitar Gods, including a sacrifice made in grass skirt at the volcano, etc. I didn't hesitate going with VTS and Golden Era bracing, but I did think a while on whether to use Sitka or take another upgrade blow and go with Adirondack....

Well I just bought a 1939 J35 Ken Hooper replica from a friend. Btw, it's the first one he ever built in late 2014! Bob Minner, my friend and plays guitar in Tim McGraw's band, also owns number #2 by Ken and shared about the #1 guitar being for sale.
Should arrive by the end of the week. BIG baseball V neck and all the older build qualities that the old J35 Gibsons had. With the exception of three tone bars, slightly scalloped and a tapered peghead. Ken apparently had a genuine 1939 J35 Gibby at the shop to inspect while building these. I played Bob's and was blown away!
