Default Gwenifer Raymond

I just learned of this American Primitive Guitarist from Wales whose debut album "You Never Were Much of a Dancer" has just been released. If you like John Fahey, you will love her playing. You can sample her music on Youtube and at her website gweniferraymond.com.

Having listened to/watched this several times, I've been listening to the whole album. There is something compelling about it, and yet I find I have to take it in small doses. After a few tracks it's too tiring to continue. One reason for this is the prevalence of fret buzz. Now I think she's using the fret buzz as a kind of percussive effect (rather than it being accidental), but it gets pretty hard to take after a bit.

So I'm still astonished, but I'm a bit worried about the fillings dropping out of my teeth.

In an interview, Andy (listen here), she says it's a Supertone Bradley Kincaid Houn' Dog.

I think it’s a great album. It’s also great to see a Welsh guitarist.

Those who, like me, gradually became haunted by Gwenifer Raymond's extraordinary album, may like to know that she has a new and equally extraordinary piece of acoustic guitar music available to listen to and download here:
