My beloved 12-fret
So, another covideo!
Since March 11 every single gig of mine disappeared (it seems it'll last beyond the summer over here). The same day I had a meeting with a member of a choir I was about to do live sound for (I'm an audio engineer). We talked briefly about the situation and how my jobs disappeared. The next day a sizeable amount of money was deposited into my bank account...From this choir member, which is not in my circle of acquaintances. No questions, no nothing. So...I figured I'd just make him a little song and record it. It's not like I'm loaded with work It's my little Taylor Custom 12-fret Grand Concert, which I found sitting alone in a shop at a discount. Seems nobody wanted it. It sounded lovely, so much more lovely than every other guitar in the shop, but it was a pain to play. It still sounds lovely, but now it's not a pain to play any more. Imagine what a little setup can do The strings are beyond old, so the wound ones sound pretty muffled, but it's still a good sound on this guitar, methinks! |

Simply beautiful! And a very good sound regardless of the condition of the strings. Well played and a good story, as well.

My I ask you how the recording was done? I am impressed by the total lack of bass resonance, so you must have used the electric output. But I hear no piezo quack, and the tone is excellent! Very Steve Baughmannish. Oh, and your playing is superb too of course, but that's a no-brainer. ;-)

Thanks for the comments, and for listening!
@Picker2 I haven't tried that many small 12-fret guitars, but I immediately loved this one. She's a loud beast. Way louder than those dreadnoughts in the upper register No piezo in there. I stay away from that stuff, unless I have to go that route live. I some times fetch the low end from the piezo, and the rest of the signal from a condenser (4099)...Just about anything to avoid that piezo top There's a couple of nice supercardioid condensers (Schoeps CMC641) some 40-50cm in front of the guitar here. |

That was both special and spectacular! Totally loved it! No question you have a wonderful touch and control of your 12 fret Taylor. Very delicate and precise. You let the "silence" between the notes do a lot of talking and it's very effective in this piece.
Your recorded sound is among the best I've heard on AGF.......that too is wonderful! Thanks, Fred

Excellent. That’s a beauty of a Taylor. What are the tonewoods?
Thanks for sharing!

Thank you for all the nice comments!
It's Indian rosewood back/sides and adirondack top. I haven't compared enough between different tonewoods myself, but it doesn't contradict the rumours about adirondack behaviour You can dig in and get really loud on this thing. Took me ten seconds to love the armrest. |

Good tune, great touch, and a nice big, clear recording from a smaller guitar.
Well done.
