Why not? Time and effort are money and the average customer doesn't care.

The guys who want you to weigh every guitar aren't serious about buying.

Been to TME many times (bought a few pieces over the years). They do it right. The instruments are kept in optimum condition.

+1. I'll amend that to BUY from a shop that cares about their inventory, even if you don't want to pay the extra 10%. Or GC and the like are what we'll get.

Next time I'm buying, once I've ID'd a couple or few I like the look, sound, and playablilty of, I will have a friend or employee play them while I listen and then we talk about them.

I am not a dealer or shop owner. I guess the "average customer" could tend to vary from shop to shop as would the average instrument, average price, etc. there.

I can only speak from my own experience having been a serious buyer many times since the 70s (currently own about 20 instruments) and have never felt the brand name alone was enough for me to purchase.

There’s a lot of magic in that store!

I agree. The inventory is top shelf. There's a lot of knowledge, talent and good business practices.

If you haven’t been to Music Zoo, once things clear up, you’ve got to go. It’s fantastic.

Where are you located?

I bought my J45 in a humidity and temp controlled acoustic room in a GC.
It was one of the better places I have tried out acoustics in.
Lucky me.

In many years of visiting GC’s I’d have a hard time remembering one really great guitar I’ve played there. You’re not alone in your observation.

You are lucky, indeed.

I have 4 GCs in the area (15, 30 and two 45 minutes away respectively).

Sadly, they are equally disappointing in most respects. Not bashing. Just reporting.

+1. I've always been under the impression that the good ones were simply not shipped to the big box giants, instead going to the 5 star dealers. At least that's been my experience for many years in So Cal.

Music Zoo is in Farmingdale? I’ve never heard of it but I’ll definitely check it out. I’m very close to Farmingdale.

I don't consider Sam Ash or Guitar Center "guitar stores". I assure you if you go to independent stores like Gruhn, Willcutt's, Down Home Guitars just to name aa few, the guitars on display will sound spectacular. No different than trying to buy a quality hi-fi from Best Buy or a quality bicycle from a big box store.

Yes;

In my opinion, it's the best guitar store in the metropolitan area. The showroom is closed right now but, with the vaccine, things are getting better and they should be open again soon.

I'm in Plainview. We have a jam group/song circle at the Plainview library once a month. We've been shut down for a year, but if you'd like to join us, pm me your email and I'll add you to the list. I'm hoping that we'll be back sometime this summer.
