And John Denver :

How about it?
Name the songs, and post links if you like
Hi Bill, thanks for including my version of "the Guitar" - not a patch on
Guy and Verlon's versions but thanks.

Well done on your Grandpas, guitar song. What is the guitar? - can't see it on the video

Also lovely to see/hear John Denver singing, even though that old Gibson archtop looks more like a 1940 L-47 model rather than a 1910.

How about this one? - a Jerry Jeff number play on my Santa Cruz "RS"? :

Good idea for a thread!

best, ol' Andy

Andy,
For and old wood guitar song I thought this beat up Harmony Broadway was appropriate.
It does not sound great, but neither do I. And it is safe to keep out all winter, and the grandkids “strum” it some. So a good match while I work on story telling. I need to loosen up a bit. [emoji6]
Your Santa Cruz is beautiful and the song is great!
Thanks for sharing.
Bill

Cool to see so many posts about Guy and Verlon. Guy is the guy who made me want to pick up a guitar. This one is a slight stretch since it’s about strings rather than a guitar per se, but I’ve always liked how this song is really just about the joy of pickin:

“Black Diamond strings on a catalog guitar / that’s pretty high cotton, whoever you are.”

And, later:

“You boys pack it up, it’s time to go home
There’s church in the morning, and it’s comin up dawn
Don’t make me say it again or I’m gone
You can stay here forever, but you’re gonna walk home”

Not a great recording, but cool montage

Hi Bill, I'm delighted to se so many votes for the Guy and Verlon song, the Guitar.

Apparntly it was made up one night . or a coulle when they were "teaching" songwriting, and the lyrics were put together with the class attendees.

I think that this is the "tale"

And this is Verlon's wondrous solo version :

Default Songs about guitars

Andy already posted this, and two things stand out.
First, Verlon finished the song a long time after the class composed it. Sometimes we just need to come back to something a bit later to get it right.
Second, they tried to share the royalties with the pupils of the class, but the pupils preferred to just get listed on the record label. Pretty cool to have you name on that label!!!
If you did not listen to this the first time, take a couple minutes to hear Verlon’s story.!!!

Here's one of my favorites:

Jim Kweskin playing "Would You Like To Play the Guitar."
