To me, the name does matter. It's a person battle as I've wanted a Martin for at least 50 years. It's a personal quest. I don't have to explain it, to register a formula or produce a flow sheet. It just is.

Well, now you have a Martin. I've had a Martin for just about 50 years. I wanted one so badly that I went without regular meals for a couple of months and bought a new 1972 D-28. And guess what? I'm enjoying my new X1-DE almost as much.

I honestly don't get it, but to each his own. I hope you enjoy your new Martin.

Default Consolidate?

I think this was brought up already but is there a way you can sell some of your other guitars and end up with maybe a D-16 type Martin used? These are pretty good and could help you get to a more convincing Martin tone?

Agreed. I think you need to give up buying $300 guitars and either save up for something better or be happy with what you have.

This Martin Special X1-DE punches way beyond its weight class! Maybe I just got a good one, but I just finished playing it alternating with my Martin OM-28V and I would just as soon play either one, no favorites here. Not the same sound, but it really doesn't come up short in the tone department. All these years I have looked down on anything less than a D-18, but this one has made me re-evaluate.

This was actually with tax about $390, so not $300.

Thank you for your thoughts

No, as I don't sell online and the area is very soft on acoustics so I would just about be giving them away. Plus even selling locally I have to go through all the hassle of the whole process, which I'd rather not do.
