Default Temporary non-permanent pickup?

Any suggestions for some sort of a decent sounding mike or pickup that can be temporarily attached to a guitar?

I have two acoustics to which I don't want to add any permanent type of pickup or sound re-inforcement.

Most of the time, I just play them into a free standing mike. But once in a while, when a mike's not available, I would like to attach some sort of pickup or mike that can do a halfway decent job of reproducing an acoustic sound.

I've heard of this mike but don't know much about it....

I also know that there are various sound-hole mikes but again don't know much about them.

Any suggestions?

Tx

The LR Baggs M-1 is always highly rated for capturing a true sound without spending a lot. http://www.lrbaggs.com/html/products..._pickups.shtml

Hi guitpic...
If I were limited to only temp and external, and money were not an object, I'd go with the Schertler dyn-g, and a Unico Acoustic amp (also from Schertler). This is the combo that Jon Jorgensen uses in his gypsy band.

Unico - click

Not cheap, but very good stuff. The pickup would work without a Unico, and I believe it is useable non-preamplified.

I have a Fishman Rare Earth Blend pickup that I have not had permanently installed so that I am able to move it fairly easily between several guitars. I really like it a lot.

MAKE it a GREAT day!!!!

Default Temporary PU

I also vote for the Rare Earth. The sound is passable. The mic you mentioned is built for the speaking voice. If you clip it on, you could make some nasty marks around the soundhole.

Have you ever considered a good condensor mic. I just purchased the Audio Technica ATM 450. This is a mic that is supposed to compete with the Shure SM81 for half the money...We'll see about this statement. But anyway, best wishes and I hope you find what you are looking for.

I know every body is gonna jump up and down and wave their arms but, I use a Dean Markley Mag ("Woody") in alot of situations with excellent results. They are faithful but, not complimentary. All the detailing is on you. I have no complaints with them and the price (under $50) is hard to beat. FWIW.....ok, fire 'em up, boys....

Thanks all for the comments and info...it's appreciated.

Grant,

Thanks for the input. According to AT, this is also a mike designed to be used with acoustic guitar. And it has a clip designed for the soundhole. I'm not sure if it is a good idea though.

This AT mike is used in this video clip...

Mr. IJak. You're right, I should have posted this in another forum. Suppose a moderator could move it?

Again, thank you everyone for the help.

Any decent quality lapel mic would fit the bill. Clips right onto the sound hole. You'd need some EQ capability.

I saw/heard one of those at AcousticProMusician near Lufkin, TX late last year. Sounded great.

Cool

Dean Markley makes an excellent "stick-on" p/u at a reasonable price.

I have a Seymour Duncan Woody, same thing, that I use as a "loaner" at the open mic I host and I'm always surprised how good that thing sounds. Especially try running it through an ART MP tube preamp and that thing sounds pretty freakin' good. Not "just like the guitar only louder" but a very pleasing sound with a phat lowend and almost feedback proof. My only complaint is the hum, there are a lot of neon beer lights around the place. I'm very interested in hearing the new Fishman humbucking Neo D.
