Default It's kind of amazing anyone survives a Chimpanzee attack...

Ever seen a hairless chimp? The musculature is straight up nighmare fuel... And they don't even lift Bro!

Scary! That looks like an animal in distress. Unless born in captivity or for rehabilitation, man, I hate zoos.

Yeah, me too. About 20 years ago, I had some time to kill and was near a zoo, so I went there for the first time since my childhood. It was a weekday morning and I practically had the place to myself. So, I was standing there watching the gorillas when the silverback appeared out of nowhere and stood right in front of me, on the other side of the glass. He pressed the palm of one hand to the glass and looked away, so I put mine up to his. We stood like that for a long time, trying to avoid eye contact. I was thrilled just to get a close look at his hand and fingernails! That went on for maybe 10 minutes, and when I left, his hand was still on the glass. That was really sad. Never been able to think about zoos the same way since then.

Some sources state that chimps are five times as strong as a man, and there are truly horrific accounts out there of chimp attacks on humans. Gives you pause when you see trained chimps in movies and TV.

Looks like most of the guys I grew up with in Bensonhurst - only thing missing is the A-shirt and the gold chains...

I recall a few years ago a woman in CT was attacked by her friend's pet Chimpanzee. She needed a face transplant.

The chimps one sees in the movies, like Cheeta, are very young. When they reach adulthood, folks don't mess with them.

Zoos are a necessary evil.

It's difficult to justify holding animals in captivity but there are respected institutions who see their primary role as conservation, research and education. Particularly the protection of endangered species.

Unfortunately we need these institutions to protect species from ourselves.

There are also lots of institutions whose focus is on making a profit...
