Default Daylight Again by Stephen Stills (cover)

This is the Crosby, Stills & Nash song, "Daylight Again" (also called "Find the Cost of Freedom") from their 1982 "Daylight Again" album.

I made a version of this song with the Graham Nash and David Crosby harmony, or as much of it as I could figure out, but in the end I liked the solo version posted here better. The solo version has more punch and everything is clearer.

The guitar is my brand new 2018 Martin D-45 tuned in double drop D (high and low E strings tuned to D) as Stephen Stills played this song. The guitar has the factory installed medium gauge strings, which I didn't think I would leave on, but when I tried this song, I decided that these strings were perfect, at least for this song.

The 2018 D-45 has forward shifted, scalloped bracing and so this version of the D-45 is more like a D-45V but it has a low-oval neck and all the D-45 appointments. I can't say that I even know what the nut width is, probably 1 11/16", but whatever it is it's fine with me.

What a sound coming from this guitar! It's also a beautiful guitar -- I have never even seen a real D-45 before this one arrived at my door.

Thanks for listening!

- Glenn

PS: I will probably start an "NGD" thread on this guitar. This would be my first time to start an NGD thread, as I am rather shy about this kind of thing, but I think some people will be interested to know what this new Martin sounds like.

Nice job on the song, Glenn. CSN (and let’s not forget Y) songs are the best. Stills and Young were my personal guitar heroes beginning with Buffalo Springfield. Have you UT’d your version of For What It’s Worth ? It has been one of my favorite songs to play since I got my first guitar in 1973.

Of course the D-45 is gorgeous and awesome sounding. It compliments your voice nicely. Martin just puts out great product these days. You will treasure this guitar the rest of your days. I just signed off on a very special custom shop order today and now have to endure the agony of a 5-6 month wait.

Thanks for sharing your joy and your talent. I’ve enjoyed both.

Great sound, Glenn. Excellent job! The strength of that D45 is a good match for your voice. Thanks for sharing your new toy with us.

HI Glenn...off you go on another one! Great sound from you both (you and the guitar! )
Congrats on the new Martin....wow.......
Would love to hear a NGD post on this. You have such an extensive group of wonderful instruments that it would be nice to catch thoughts and comparisons with those that have been with you. Looks like an amazing instrument!
Best,
Fred

Hi GT,

Thanks so much for listening and commenting!

You know, I miss Indiana! I went to college at Purdue where I got my mechanical engineering degree. I grew up in northeastern Ohio, near Cleveland, OH.

I, too, have really appreciated Crosby, Stills & Nash and I have particularly appreciated Stephen Stills acoustic guitar playing. I have learned a lot from him over the years just by figuring out his songs.

I have not learned to play "For What It's Worth" but I should put that on my list!

And yes, I am very pleased with the D-45. It's beautifully set up, just a lovely guitar in all ways.

Thanks so much, again, for listening and commenting!

- Glenn
