12-string open headstock question
I´m a bit insecure about the 12-string open headstock I intend to build.
Would a cedro wood panel for the neck and headstock ( 20mm thick 25/32 ″) be sufficient or too week? And will 7mm or 09/32" of diameter for both of the outside bars be strong enough? I marked this in the photo beneath. See the red arrows. The inner bar is from 15mm (- 19/32") on top to 22mm -(55/64")down near the nut.

FWIW, I would go with Mahogany but if using Cedro I'd re-enforce with CF and a single truss rod.
Consider putting the truss rod access in the soundhole. Step up to 8MM for your side ribs. Consider a volute or at lease a decent handstop on the back. One piece neck if possible. I usually go with 19MM headstock thickness. Don't drill your tuner mount screw holes through the ribs. Have seen a few people do this with bad outcomes. |

What you suggest is what I was thinking too: The single truss rod acces in the soundhole. Headstock thickness will have to be a tad more than the metal tuner-base which is 18MM wide. And I guess the side ribs are more reliable with 8MM. As for the handstop on the back, I love one to be there with a light curve from the neck up to the head. I will keep the tuner mount screw holes as short as possible. And I will use the cedro wood I have already lying on my work bench. The luthier who sent me the cedro told me that this wood is somewhat softer than Mahogany but has longer fibers.
