Paradigms. People get used to something and they refuse to change. when change happens, they hate it because it upsets their perceived balance in life.

I used to hate the Seagull headstock, so much so that I refused to even play a Seagull just for kicks.

One day I heard someone playing a guitar behind me and I thought wow, that sounds pretty darn good. Turned around and it was a seagull. I still wasn't convinced. Then Music Go Round had one in stock for half the street retail. I bypassed it every time I went to the store.

Then one day I was just about to buy a St Louis Sigma. Sounded really nice and I wanted a porch guitar. So I said, okay, I'll try that seagull. I took that Seagull home even though it had dead strings on it and was hard to determine the true sound, but I heard the potential. It was basically a new guitar but has a boo boo on it that made most people bypass it. But it was going to be, and is, my porch guitar. Love the solid top with 3 layers of cherry lam on the sides and back.

Had it set up, changed strings, and it is now my go to guitar, and I have come to appreciate the headstock. Sleek and different than most guitars. The Ovation headstock is about the same head but with wings, and I think it's the best headstock of all time on a guitar.

The only headstock that looks goofy to me is the Fender that has the electric version of the headstock. But it's still cool none the less.

How many people knew that Martin once had a headstock that resembled the fender electric headstock? You have to go way back, but it exists.

I can get used to Seagull's too narrow headstock but I can't stand Breedlove's crooked headstock.

I think what's "wrong" with Seagull's headstock design is that it's too narrow. I don't mind, in fact I like, the taper, but I think it's too thin and awkwardly disproportionate.

Agreed. While I like it on my small-bodied Folk, I thought it was entirely too small on my S6.

I never realized that so many people didn't like the Seagull headstock until I joined the AGF. Although I prefer many other headstocks, Seagull's has never bothered me.

Same here. While I do prefer the Martin headstock, the Seagull is fine and has never kept me from buying Seagull guitars.

Now, if we want to get folks REALLY riled up, let's just mention the Tacoma guitar's headstock, shall we?

Yeah, I didn't realize that there was so much discrimination against a particular headstock until I joined AGF. Such passionate discussion :0

I did a google search on "headstock" and looked at the images results-page. My intent was to find a few ugly headstocks. What I was very surprised by was that the majority were very ugly.

Maybe those ugly ones all died a product-death which is why only the acceptable ones are still around.

Sort of a headstock survival-of-the-fittest evolutionary tail.

Seagull is sort of like a duck-billed platypus, in that regard.

At last! I can admit that I hate the Seagull headstock! I had the Artist Mosaic, which was OKish, but the headstock? Sorry. Not for me.

I can't say that I am a big fan of the Seagull headstock... but it would not keep me from buying one. I do love the straight pull design though.
I think Ovation added some elegance to that style....

Actually paddle heads are all starting to look alike to me. You're not a real man until you have a slotted headstock, lol.

Epiphone, Gibson and Recording King classic crown headstock are the only headstock designs I truly like.

Guild, Ibanez, Martin, Taylor, Yamaha are passable.

Breedlove, Dean, Fender, Mitchell, Ovation, Seagull, Tacoma and Takamine routinely get my votes for worst acoustic headstock shapes.
