Here's a little update...
Here's the 42. Headstock plate has been changed to MRW in lieu of Ebony.
Necks in various stages of completion from the batch, and a group photo. Hopefully more soon.

Thanks for the reminder.
I forgot to mention the others. OM is fourth from the right, and the 45 is second from the left. Hope to see more progress soon.
I heard Per has secured a nice place to finish the guitars.

Terribly Fun! Thanks for Sharing!
Beats a movie out - thanks for sharing all the photos. I THINK I'll be able to get the drool marks off my keyboard.

OM finish
TuckerRE, Thanks for reading. It's been fun doing this build log.
steveh, I certainly hope you stay alive longer than it takes to get these guitars finished, and much longer. Matthew, You're just being a rascal. I haven't asked, but I think it's safe to say judging from no recent activity, that the 45 will probably be done at a later date. And that's cool with me. I know how much work it's going to take, and if it will speed things up a little for everyone else waiting for their guitars in this batch, I'm all for it. I know from looking at the work he's doing that it will be spectacular. Plus, although being tempted by other guitars during this build, I remain GAS free watching Per work his magic. Like this update showing the OM body after pore filling and a few coats of varnish. Looking good! Thanks Per!

Like I said over on UMGF, this is some of the best Madagascar I've ever seen. So straight grained, and now that we're beginning to get an idea of what it will look like under finish, I'm flabbergasted. It is a dead ringer for old 30s Brazilian.

Per says it's "starting" to look better with a few more coats...

Bridge tutorial from Per
My high tech profile sanding jig I recently made. I just rough saw the shape and then use this to sand the profile.
This is the sander Since my tops are constructed with an arch I don't want a straight bridge. I make the initial radius with a scraper. Then I mark the bottom of the bridge with a pen. And use this high tech radius jig and get to sanding. This is what it looks like after about 10-15 strokes. And a couple more. Close but not done yet. It takes me about a minute to sand away the pencil marks, then I make new marks and do a really soft sanding to make sure I distributed the pressure evenly the first time. This is the radius. I noticed that I also got a VERY slight radius in the other direction that matches the top arch really well! A bunch of bridges with radius done and one almost completed. I'll show you how I make the wings next. I'll also give you an update from the spray booth as soon as I can! Per Thanks Per! The bridges look really good so far. Can't wait to see the pyramid bridge for the 42 as well.

Dovetail work
First off, a sophisticated template marks the outline from the top.
Lines are transferred to the front to the bottom. Carefully sawing on an angle, taking care not to cut into the lower binding. Both sides done. Wood drilled and chiseled to gain access for the saw to cut all the way down at the end.. Now that the dovetail sides are nice and straight, the chisel takes over and makes this... And after a little finessing, a perfect cavity for the neck. Heres a rough neck perfectly fitted. Nice work Per!
