Default Personal data from 500 million Facebook accounts leaked, published

Ah, good times.

This breach includes phone numbers, Facebook IDs, full names, locations, birthdates, bios, and in some cases email addresses.
I nuked my account a couple years ago so I hope it wasn’t still in the database, but who knows. Not clear to me yet if this is active accounts or all accounts ever. Anyway, folks should know. The disinformation machine is spreading more joy...

Probably a good time to reset that email password in the account you have associated with Facebook.

Amazing. Don't think I'll be joining FB anytime soon. Money speaks.

Ouch! I deactivated my account 3 years ago but it's still there because I didn't delete it, just in case I ever decide to go back. I didn't use my real birthdate though.

Update: Apparently this is data which was originally surfaced in 2019, and has been released again. I don’t know the date of the original hack. Still wise to update the email password associated with one’s Facebook account.

... and people think I'm a caveman because I've never had faceTube, chapsnatch or tweetery.

Three guitar forums is as close as I get to hash tagging or whatever these things are called.

Sounds like the worst case scenario is you get more scam/spam phone calls? I'm a tech dinosaur, but that's what it sounds like. Facebook doesn't have you SS number or your credit card/bank info.

Pretty sure you phone number is 'out there' already, at least mine is because it's my business number.

I’m so glad I don’t do Facebook. I don’t even have an alt account.

Let's see if Zuckerberg does the right thing and offers two years free subscription to Lifelock or similar to all effectied. This is what other companies do for their customers.

I don't think he will.....

Me, I'm just another Facebook hater

I don’t know what the worst case scenario is, but certainly getting your email hacked due to a social engineering exploit is going to be orders of magnitude easier with bad actors having access to this data set. When bad actors have easy access to a variety of personal data this becomes easier.

I joined for the 1st time just a few weeks ago so I could comment on an old high school photo with me and my (future) wife both in it.
I entered a false birth date.
There are no other details on my site - no address, no marital status, nothing.

I have no friends.

You’re online, you’re vulnerable. Think AGF can’t be breached?

Oh the things I could say that would get me in trouble on one of my favorite places on the internet.

Yeah, not a fan- I'll just leave it at that. You can go down the rabbit hole yourself and learn what Facebook really is and why it was created. Gotta go now, they're watching me.

We leave all these pieces of ourselves all over the internet. It's not just a matter of what can be done with any individual piece now. What troubles me is how those pieces can be aggregated and used against us in the future. I think that it's prudent to be extremely sparing with what you share about yourself online.
