Default Tonedexter and Full Anthem pick ups

Has it been established that Tonedexter doesn't play well with an lr baggs full anthem pick up? I recently upgraded my pick up to the Anthem and am wondering if my Tonedexter is worthless to me now?

I think it's like putting a hat on a hat.

Before you chuck it, you can experiment a bit with different sounds......if you turn the mic on the Anthem control all the way off, you have the undersaddle Element pickup only. Run this to some Tonedexter files, play some, press ‘Bypass’ to compare Tonedexter sounds to Anthem sounds.....adjust the Anthem mic back up....

I don't think that's been established at all. According to the AudioSprockets list of pickups, the SL version is problematic, while the full version is not. If you have an Anthem and a ToneDexter, just try it for yourself and see how you like it.

As an Ovation guy, would the Tonedexter work with O's?

I don't see why not. Ovation's just a fairly normal UST as far as I know.

The full anthem can be used in a UST-only way, so Tonedexter can be used that way. You should not add the mic though, because the way the two sources are mixed internally will mess up the phase and you shouldn't expect good results. The SL never gives a pure UST signal if I recall correctly, and that's why it's not suitable

This is good news. I was surprised to see the full Anthem in "Works Well" list! When recording the
IR do I turn the blend all the way to the Element?

Are you saying after I record the IR (presumably recorded over the Element only) and am playing , I keep the blend to the Element and not blend with the mic?

Yes, when I was using the Anthem, that’s what James said to do.

This will make an interesting experiment. Let us know which sounds you prefer. You can use the TD in bypass mode as a DI/pre-amp, mute, tuner, boost, two band EQ while the Anthem is in the microphone setting. When the Anthem is set to full undersaddle, you can use the Tonedexter wavemaps. Try to describe the difference between the two.

You have a choice. With the full Anthem, ToneDexter will train properly at any blend setting. You'll just need to use that same blend setting when playing back to get the desired result. However, we have found that there is little benefit (and some feedback downside) in using mic blend with ToneDexter. The sound will be made natural by the WaveMap process and the mic becomes redundant. That's why we recommend dialing the mic off.

FYI, the Anthem SL has some non-linear compression in the crossover that can't be disabled. As a result, ToneDexter struggles to train properly with it.
