A lovely guitar that I've had the pleasure to keep at home for a couple of weeks over the summer. Incredible punch, and the pronounced midrange you get from mahogany. It fits really nicely in Marc's stable.
And man, always a treat to read your NGDs. So looking forward to the little surprise  Cheers,

String gauge update
Even though I still haven't recorded anything on this guitar, I wanted to give you all an update.
A month or two ago I switched to 11-52s to see if that would a) make the guitar feel easier to play and b) change the tone or responsiveness. At first, the difference in comfort wasn't that noticeable, and I noticed no change in tone or responsiveness. As time has gone by, though, the guitar seems to have settled into the new tension. It feels significantly easier to play: slinkier strings and slightly lower action. Still no change in tone, the guitar remains as balanced as ever. I'm so stoked!! In other gauge-changing news, thanks to a suggestion from Thomas Vaillant last year, I've been running Elixir HD Lights on the Claxton. The heavier 1st and 2nd strings add some body to the notes on what is an airy sounding guitar. Despite the extra tension, howevert, the Claxton is still easier under the fingers than the Circa. Uncanny. Lastly, I also switched to 11-52s on the 0-17. I was hoping it would remove some low and low-mid "clutter" without feeling too slinky or sounding too thin. I am happy to report that my hunch was correct. This already open sounding guitar opened up just a little bit more, all in the right places for my ear.

Congratulations on your beautiful guitars. My experience using Elixir HD Lights is exactly the same. The heavier gauge on strings #1,2 and 3 are just what certain guitars need. I use them on 2 of my guitars and find they bring out a full tone in the trebles, especially for the E and G strings. It provides a nice option. Good luck and enjoy.
