Fun smashing a guitar
I had a no name guitar that had a big crack and was not worth fixing so I thought to myself "Hmmmm Why not?" I wanted to see what the Hendrix - Garth Brooks antics were all about so I just swung it and smashed to pieces against a brick wall and on the concrete driveway. I didn't have any lighter fluid so that was about it but I have to admit it did get the adrenaline going. It's just liberating to, after being so careful all the time babying our instruments, do just the opposite.
Any similar experiences? Last edited by heni30; 04-15-2011 at 12:28 AM. |

John Belushi apparently had some regrets after smashing a guitar in "Animal House." He apologized, at least.

I've smashed a couple of prototypes that were never meant for public consumption. If nothing else, it gives one a good idea of just how tough even a lightly built guitar is. I started by hammering the top with my fist and the first hard blow barely popped a brace. It took 3 or 4 very hard blows to do serious damage.

It was more a Garth Brooks concert tv special where he totally destroys a Takamine Dreadnought at the end. Also in the movie "Office Space" there's a scene where they do a number on a computer printer out in a field that's hilarious. It's that same kind of power you feel when your doing demolition wielding a reciprocating saw.

I thought I heard the story that after a while it got tough for Pete Townshend to buy a guitar. Some of the shop owners knew what he was going to end up doing to the guitar so they wouldn't sell him one.
If I had an old piece of junk that didn't play worth a darned, I'd smash it just to know what it feels like. |
