Reverse Tension Guitar
Just had the opportunity to play a crazy reverse tension acoustic. I've never heard of these before, so I thought you all might be interested.
I work at a library and we are having a concert tonight, one of the guitarists saw me looking at one of the guitars and immediately was like, here, play it! It's got some kind of wires going from the bridge to the bottom of the guitar, which of course is what makes it reverse tension. Apparently he just got it yesterday. Sounds real nice, played nice. As far as the reverse tension part of it, a picture is worth a thousand words, so just check out the link to it: http://www.rtguitar.com/guitar_list/sj-430c-natural/

Looks as though it is almost equivalent to an arch top guitar, though a little more complicated. Seems to have a tunable after length.

Reverse Tension
Just another way of accomplishing what a tailpiece does. I see more potential for problems than issues it solves, but it's a nice proof of concept.
Yes, archtop strings extend to the tailpiece but the top is "arched" (duh ) so there's more tension on the bridge than a flat top would have with a tailpiece. Again, nice proof of concept but lets see how sales are and if there's any long term benefit or issues.

So, beyond "played nice", can you be more specific in your impressions?
It is an interesting design and from an engineering standpoint has a lot of implications from a sound and feel standpoint. But then again, it might be just a gimmick. What do you think?

I'm counting six more strings...
What's the idea of this? |

What? You haven't heard of 12-strings before?

I asked this in a previous thread, but I'll ask again here:
Do the strings vibrate sympathetically? Can you tune them? Like to the key of your song? Are they 'playable' in any context? Are special strings required?

This ain't no 12 string...
Are the other strings just for tension? Or tunable "sympathetic " strings? |

Bridge torque is a good thing. Recordings of the reverse tension guitars I have head seem a little lacking, especially in the bass, but I guess hands on of a few of them is the only valid way to draw conclusions.
