The Tacoma and New Hartford guitars are great too and I have a Corona F-412 that is mighty loud.

Tried a set of D'Addario Nickel Bronze strings on it last week ... wow!

I actually love loud (and responsive) guitars too.

And you don't need these on a loud guitar.

What i find interesting though, I’ve read many time here about maple jumbos being quite loud(thank you, simpl man). Nothing available like that under a grand? Washburn, Alvarez?
What about those big Yamaha LL16 jumbos? Not big on volume? I’m enjoying this immensely, hearing such varied resopnses. Thank you so much for your investment!
Used Guild Gad JF30. Pretty loud maple back and side guitar under a $1000.

Resonator is gonna be loud. I have a National MT14 Thunderbox that really outs out some sound :-).

I assume you are playing with a acoustic band, bluegrass or something? What is the driver behind wanting a louder guitar? Are you plugging in, etc.?

Is a Taylor GS mini good at strumming? Lord, they're loud. I should get one to fry the hair off my ears - skip the scissors.

You said other than a Dreadnought, so I wont suggest an Eastman E20d which I recently bought for only 1000 bucks, that is an excellent guitar. So I suggest an Eastman E10om or an Eastman E20om. Talk to Ted at L.A. guitar sales. That's where I got my Eastman. He gave me a really good deal. Nice people to deal with. There is some good review videos of these 2 guitars at sound pure. Let us know what you decide to get.

If you want loud get a Eastman arch top.

When I first got my first Eastman. It was a AR605 I was playing in a summer big band. At one point the director asked me to turn down a little. I was not using a amplifier. I now have a AR610 it is even louder.

A Taylor DN3 is a really loud great sounding dread you can find for way less than $1000.

Stratocaster plugged into a Twin Reverb. You can't get louder than that.

As Brucebubs suggested, Guild 12 string should be nice and loud! Here's what looks like a good one, within your budget:

Another important thing in my (limited) experience is how a guitar is braced.
Epiphones and other more budget oriented guitars are sometime "overbraced" for lack of a better word.

The loudest guitar I have played so far is my Advanced Jumbo, and it is a very light and responsive guitar. Not sure if the Red Spruce top has any influence on that, but I'm sure the bracing does.

Another vote for an arch-back Guild.

I once owned a sitka/maple F-50 Standard that was super loud. In hindsight, I should have held onto it.

You know what a piano sounds like when the musician is starting to dig into it?
It’s that glorious wash of sound that surrounds. That is the catalyst.
Thats what I want to hear. Bold, beautiful, thick. Maybe a dream.
