Holy cow, Kent, that's beautiful.
Our shop just finished a Ziricote/redwood OM, and based on how well those two woods paired I predict you're going to love the results of your choice.
I really look forward to seeing this one.

Steve

Making progress on this one. I had some nice Amboyna burl I'd been saving and I thought it would pair well with the redwood top and Cocobolo fingerboard.

A shot of the Ziricote rims. I'm hoping to get the box together and get this ready for finish next week.

Lookin' great, Kent. Coolest rosette! I just got finished reading another post about how hard/dense b/s woods can make for a kind of dull sound in a small-body. And I have to at least half agree as I'm almost always disappointed in small bodied maples. Don't think there's much of a chance of that happening here What's your take on this theory....?

That's a new one on me. I've built plenty of these with dense woods like rosewoods and wenge and I have been very happy with all of them. I've got an Engelmann/Indian Rosewood Classic underway for Mandolin Brothers right now. I'll be sure and let you know when it gets there and you can check it out. The Indian is at least 20 years old and as hard and dense as I've seen.

Thanks to everyone for looking and for the nice comments!

More pictures next week......

OK, I finally got back to this one. Now all I have to do is decide between a walnut neck (which I think would go well with the Ziricote) or a spanish cedar slot head. Leaning toward the slot head. The walnut is from a board I found buried in an old lumber yard that had been there for 20 years as a sample. Perfect wood but already cut out into my standard headstock. Hmmmm, tough choice.

The binding was a tough decision on this too. Ziricote has some greens in it and after putting a dozen different bindings and purflings next to it, I ended up with good old ebony with black/white purfling. It looks clean to me and doesn't distract form the Ziricote.

Thanks for looking.

Looks great Kent! Love the ebony choice. Ziricote is a harder one to find that right color since it's such a strange color itself. We always used Koa at McPherson and I hated that.. Golden and green just didn't work imo. Yours, however, looks lovely!
