Is this good enough quality for an outside on-the-go recording (video)
So...
A couple of months ago I traveled to the family's "summer house". Decided to record part of the songs I know and see how it went under pressure, considering the time constraints. I'm using a panasonic G7 and a zoom H5. I think overall the sound/image quality turned out great. The main downside is the small mistakes here and there, due to "nerves" and lack of practice (In this one I haven't played in 3 months at the time). I'll try to pratice and record one at the time in the future. Some people record the track on a "proper" studio, recording over the messed up parts and so on. And then placing the recording over their videos, but recording on the actual place seems more honest to me (and easier). For now it is more of a "serious" hobby than a professional attempt. Any advices on eq'ing adding reverb and such on the Reaper? I tried, but I don't know what I'm doing, having always this felling that flat eq increasing the gain and adding a limiter is good enough (which I did in this one). And should I buy a pair of decent mics? Or would it be going against my goal of recording outside having to carry one more stand and 2 more pieces of equipment? One of the videos (mentioned above): |

I think your recording sounds fine. Adding effects such as EQ or reverb, is a decision you must make, depending on the sound you're looking for.

Good job and the openness of the outdoors sounds refreshing.
You low end is a little big on my monitors. Maybe a little less around 80-125, but that's being picky. Well done and yes I hear the few flubs but they're vedry minor. As a Maryland Boy, I really enjoy Fahey. Nice rendition. Regards, Ty Ford |

I like the sound in the main - I do think a little reverb would improve it. I also think you would get a better result with a couple of external mics for relatively little cost.

I think is sounds great as it is. I'd roll off a touch of bass and call it good as is. How far away was the Zoom?

Maybe 1-2 feet from the guitar. I started using a high pass filter after this one. |

I like it a lot. Simple and elegant in terms of the approach you took and the result you got.

Hi V
I was expecting more of the ambient sound in the recording. It's fine… It would be more interesting with B roll inserted along the way. Video becomes L-O-N-G when there is no relief to the eyes. |
