Default NGD - Martin 000-18

A couple weeks ago, I made a post about not getting along with the Martin sound. I was in the market for a smaller guitar, sometime different than my Gibson, but something I still liked. I went to Wildwood with a list of guitars I wanted to play, and after many trials, I decided on the 000-18. I played some gibsons, some guilds and several other Martins. One thing I confirmed in all this is that I don’t care for the sound of rosewood, Martin or Gibson!

On to the 000-18. It’s a great guitar so far. It does not have the bass of my Gibson (obviously!) but it does have a lot more highs and sounds bright but not tinny like some guitars I have played. I love the size, it’s a great couch guitar! I am not much of a guitar player, but it does sound great with fingers or a pick. One thing I don’t like is that the fretboard markers are really dark and hard to see. The side dots are also small and hard to see. Not the end of the world, but not ideal for me. So far I really like it, and hope to have it for a long time!

Nice pictures; don’t let anyone tell you they’re too large (humor). I have mine in hand right now and find it articulate and balanced due to defined waist and manageable depth and overall size. I only use bare fingers. With steel string guitars my hearing can’t handle the sound of a pick striking the strings. Your guitar will age well with care; I hope you enjoy it far into the future.

Beautiful guitar.

A couple of years ago I bought a Guild M140 which has similar spec, but my aim is to own a 000-18 one day!

Congrats on your 000-18 ! I’ve had mine for several years now, It’s that rare (to me) bird that is always satisfying to hold and play, it’s staying for the duration.

Very nice! I also have a SJ-200 to compliment my Martins. Jelly of that 000-18 though ... good stuff. I need to get up to Wildwood (living in CO).

Enjoy. The 000 18 is one of my favorites. I’ve got a 65 that has seen many gigs with me over the years.

The 000-18 is certainly the do-it-all guitar for all seasons. Congratulations.

Congratulations! You got two timeless classics there.

There's an 000-18 on Chicago Craigslist. Wish I had the price of admission.

Interesting, how did you get life-size pics onto my 13 inch screen?

Beautiful guitar, by the way, congratulations!

Congrats on the OOO-18! I played one at Gruhn's here in Nashville a couple of weeks ago. Of all the guitars I tried that day, that one was my favorite. I may have to get one later this year...
