Default NGD 1994 Gibson ES-165 Herb Ellis

Been playing Teles for a lot of years and never had an archtop that I could bond with but this could possibly be the one. So far, no negatives and I got it for a good price. These are pretty much hidden gems in the archtop world - basically a single pickup ES175.

You might want to pick up a wooden bridge (about $25 last I looked) from StewMac - I tried a Herb Ellis about 25 years ago that was retrofitted with a rosewood bridge and it made a major difference in tone, both acoustically and amplified...

Use it well and often...

Congratulations Skip! Beautiful Herb Ellis ES-165. What a great, classic, awesome archtop.

For me, the Herb Ellis model was the one that got away. Found one at an exceptional price many years ago at a swap shop. Finish was a little checked and the hardware oxidized but the tone was the best of any ES-165/175 I ever heard. Still regretting not pulling the trigger.

Your acquisition makes up for my lost opportunity. Stars and planets back in alignment. Congratulations!
