Bozz,

another reason for the AC15 (aside from the trem, verb, 12" speaker, dripping voxy tone goodness) is the myth of wattage.

15 watts is actually not much louder than 4 watts. 10 times wattage = double volume, so in reality, the 4 watt vox is very loud and the 15 is a bit louder with cleaner headroom. To double the volume of the 4 watter, you'd have to get a 40 watter and for bedroom volumes, right around .5 - 1 watt is usually plenty

let us know how you like the 15. its a killer amp for the mone

Thanks Steve. I did know about that but even if you "know" it, the myth is hard to overcome! Lol. Looks like I'll be waiting to purchase until tomorrow at least. Hoping I get some better news talking to a new salesperson and/or manager... I dunno. I was hoping to get $150 off. I know that's probably running them pretty close to their margin, but after the Collings, I figure i earned it. Lol. Maybe a manger would be more inclined than a salesperson? I know I'm cutting into the salesperson's commission. But come on! After the Collings, $150 seems reasonable to me.

Walk in with cash and talk to the manager. I bet he deals with you. Times are tough in the musical instrument world as everywhere else.

Unfortunately, there will be no walking in with a fist full of cash. All online... Nearest Guitar Center (which is incidentally also the nearest music store with inventory beyond $199 Fenders) is close to 300 miles away. Ah, North Dakota livin'.

Called up Guitar Center main line today, they said $499 is their absolute bottom line number. He told me to call a few of the stores around my area to see what they say; that they might be able to work with me a bit on price. So I did. No luck. $499. There are two used AC15C1's on the GC website at $399, called those locations, they won't budge on price either. Trying to figure out what I want to do. Just go $499 for new? $399 for used? Keep on looking?

There is nothing wrong with going for a used tube amp. My HR Deluxe was used. Over 90% of any problems that arise are from the tubes, and they are easily replaceable and fairly cheap considering that they'll last anywhere from months to even years depending. If you get a used one and it shows any problems, PM me and I can help you figure it out. $499 is not a bad price for a new one either, most places I checked were at least $100 higher than that.

Thanks Clint. I might pm you anyway, just to get some education! I actually did end up getting a call back from the Roseville store (Minneapolis) and they said they could go to 480, no lower. That's 20% off that $600 normal price. Free shipping. Full warranty. I'm happy with that. Since they'll ship it, they said best to wait until Wednesday, when they'll have one new in the box. I'll call back to finalize it then. Woohoo! AC15C1!!

Can't wait! Going to place the order in the morning. My only electric is a ~2000 model Epiphone Les Paul Deluxe with JB/59 pups, but I am really really really wanting to hear the tone of this amp through a Tele, which I have $200 down on in my local shop. The single-coil gold will have to wait a couple months. But I'm seriously pumped to bring the new gal into the fold!

I have a cheap Mexi 50's reissue Tele (with Van Zandt pickups) that sounds righteous with that amp. It's a guitar that mates perfectly with the AC15C1

My budget only allows for a MIM Standard Tele (Hell, it doesn't even allow for that but I'm getting one anyway! Lol!). Can't wait!
