Default Tascam DR files

How do you store and manage files on your portable recorder? I have a tascam DR-40, and naming and organizing files seems a little cumbersome. (Scrolling through alphabets)

Is it easier to just upload to a computer or pad and rename once there? If so, what apps? Im just capturing riffs and melodies here and there. I use a whole different set up if I want to record a song, but am looking for something easy and portable, besides my iPhone

Set your DR to record files with a date and time stamp. You can always change them when your DR is linked to a PC via USB connection if you really need to.

When I record I'll do a few versions and then move the zoom### files to my computer. I have a base folder for each year, sub folders for tunings, then subfolders for each tune. Then as I'm editing and mastering the tune I'll rename it to the name of the tune. I then clean out the folder of the Zoom of all "takes."

PS. - I use portable hard drives to store my music and tabs. I upgrade the HD periodically.

Once the files are on the target device, simply rename them using the proper file management system. For a PC it will be your file manager. I just did it today with a new recording.
