I live near a large farm, and there's no way the structures are 900 feet tall. I can tell you that you will be able to see those from 15 miles away. Likely a lot more!

In an example they give, they estimate that a 400 ft. wind turbine would be visible from about 30 miles, give or take.
So, it's safe to assume that a wind farm with 99 900 ft. tall turbines should be very visible from 15 miles away.
Is it a touristy area? If so, you might be able to fight that assuming enough people feel the same way. Having well connected folks on your side is always handy too.
We know that from experience here in MA.
Thanks for this. The entire Jersey coast, from Cape May north to Long Island is tourist and residential area. This proposal scares me on a number of levels (bird suicide is way down on my list...)

Pretty sure birds aren't making their minds up to commit hara-kiri by flying through wind turbines. I can do sarcasm, too.

It's the equivalent of viewing something an inch tall from just over 7 feet away. So, stand something 1 inch tall up and stand 7 feet away. That's what it'll look like.

You suspect is kind of liking someone saying I feel, neither one having rational basis, just feeling, or suspecting.

One thing is for sure, the waters have been so muddied on these topics that it's unlikely any valuable insights will be made on a guitar forum.

Thousands of ugly wind turbines clutter the landscape for miles...half of them inoperative.
Yes, but natural pollution is good, since it's made for the benefit of mother Gaia.

All those turbines down there are incredibly ugly and it's incredible how many of them aren't even running. Solution looking for a problem and justifying it by building an emotional narrative, magically lining many pockets along the way.

I’m glad someone else verified this.
You have to see it to experience how it destroys the landscape, not in one spot, it’s miles and miles.
Are you implying somebody gained a financial benefit from the gullibility of others?
Shame on you.

If you are going to throw around pejoratives, it would be nice to at least get them right. NIMBY is an acronym ("Not In My Back Yard"), used to negatively describe people who don't want things that are unpleasant or hazardous near them but are perfectly willing to allow them elsewhere.

Farmers in my area welcome them for the added income. It seems that there is some initial resistance but it fades away once folks get used to them. I like the way they look and am happy to have a them replace nuclear power plants in the state.

Really?

I don't know about the US but in the UK wind power accounted for 20% of electricity generation in 2019. 54% of renewable sources. Hardly "minimal".

For comparison, England is about the size of the state of Alabama. You have prevailing winds along your entire coastline.
We don’t have prevailing winds in Alabama, let alone 90% of our country.
Hardly comparable logistically and from a cost effective standpoint, incomparable when you consider what it would cost to accomplish the same results in the U.S.
Folly.

It is funny how we differ. I hate windmills and am real happy to
live down the road from Duke Power's Oconee nuclear station...
