I had great seats at the Lisner Auditorium for one of the shows that provided tracks for WFC. You can even hear me whistling on one of the tracks at the end of the song.
What a night!

There's a new show on Netflix, I think. On it one of the producers said that the three most important things in making a great record are; the song, the song, and the song.
This is one of those songs. It's the kind of song that if you can do a decent version of it, it will make you sound like a better player. At one of my jam groups, we have a family of violin players, aged for 9 to 18. There's 5 of them, 2 cellos and 3 violins. It seems like most of my songs are not the songs you should be singing to a 9 year old. When I did Willin', I sang ''and if you give me Hmmmm, himmmm and hmmm''. Even they thought it was hilarious. Of course, they went home and looked up the song and the next time they knew the whole thing!

Yeah, that's no Martin. They bridge is backwards.
 That being said, play what you got. I've payed it many times on my Martin D-16GT and been content. The song is all about the lyrics, though my lifestyle could never pay them tribute - and that ain't necessarily a bad thing!

Such a great song. Love it.
I have a video on FB of myself and my old bandmate playing it, but can't figure out how to link it here. It's pretty good, if I say so myself. (We are both playing Alvarez-Yairi DY-74s, not that it matters.)

I learned to play this one in the late 70's, from the Linda Ronstadt version, which was on her 1975 Hearts Like a Wheel album. I still have the album, the songbook.... and the cheap Alvarez guitar.

I would characterize Waiting for Columbus as "kind of" a live album. My understanding is that Lowell George went back and redid a lot of the guitar work and the vocals on the album.
Another stand out on that album is Apolitical Blues with Mick Taylor on the slide.

I used a Smakula mountain dulcimer when my old band in the mid '70s did this song.
