If you know my building style, you know that I'm not a huge fan of inlays. But this commission kind of clicked with me. The client wanted a nautical theme throughout the board.
So the lighthouse was on the upper board:

And the fretboard markers were these "monkey's fists" which are nautical knots.

Final product:

That's knot something we see on your guitars but maybe you should do more of it!.... Looks Great.

Here is one of my favorite inlays from Grit Laskin. Perfect example of Less is More...

Harvey. Your stuff is FREAKIN' WOW!
I had the opportunity to have a few conversations with Grit. I also sat through his Powerpoint presentation of his work. So much thought and execution.

Here is another great artist. Craig Lavin
His grasp on nature prompted me to hire Craig for an elaborate Monarch Butterfly for the headplate of my future McKnight.

Harvey, your work is truly unbelievable! And it is cool, too. I don't like the inlays that just want to appear blingy, yours are very very cool!

I really like Joel Stehr's headstock inlay. And it even looks better in person. It is not fancy, just brilliant.

Lots of fantastic stuff in this thread. Harvey, your inlays are breathtaking. Complex yet tasteful. Beautifully designed and executed.

Mine are pretty traditional...this is about as fancy as I get. Larson floral.

This is a favorite of mine though...

I used to get pretty fancy with mandolins...

Paul, it's clear that you CAN do it and just choose not to!! Wow!! I'm a big fan of your mission/simple style, but this is a stunning job!

Harvl, those are spectacular. I especially like the first one.
Here's one that Jimmi Wingert did for me. I haven't put the headstock veneer on yet, but would like to share it now.
To explain, a baby kangaroo is called a Joey, and that's my daughter's nickname. This build is for her.
The veneer is bloodwood. The sun is curly maple and, of course, ebony for the 'roo and grass. It's not a complicated inlay by any means, but it is exactly what I wanted, and it's perfect for my goal.

Joey's gonna be blown away when she sees this.
