Haven't played many all-mahogany guitars, save those I've owned... save for a Taylor AD27, which I liked, but wasn't blown away by. I am certain there are many stellar models out there, but for my limited experience...

I've owned a few hog-tops, starting with the Orangewood Oliver Concert, followed by an Ibanez AW54 dreadnaught, then a Breedlove Organic Concert. I liked them all....I think I have a penchant for the warm, woody crispness of mahogany guitars. I still have the Breedlove.

The one that knocked my socks of was my Alvarez AP66-SHB Parlor. I had just stopped by my local guitar shop for strings, and saw it hanging on the wall. Thought it looked kinda cute. Played it for half a minute and got out my wallet. The guitar had the sound I was kinda looking for in my head. Never bought a guitar on a first impression/snap decision basis like that, and haven't since.

I’m a big fan of all mahogany guitars. Had an OM-15 that I loved and regret selling, but it was overshadowed by my GPC-15ME. The GPC has more volume, sweetness, shimmer, bass, a little more of everything. It’s pretty much the perfect guitar for me.

Martin OM-15 Custom Shop from LA Guitars. Mine has the gloss finish, binding and a 1 3/4 nut. That nut size was a must have for me. It’s a wonderful woody sounding guitar that shines with Martin Retro lights on it.

Only played three.

1950s Martin 00-17.
Martin Authentic 00-17 1921.
Martin 000-15SM.

Of the three, not surprisingly, the Authentic was the standout. It also has the fattest/roundest treble strings of any acoustics I've played. And responsive across the fingerboard. Just gorgeous.

My 2014 Taylor 522E. Which, interestingly enough is only a few years older than this thread!

Martin J12-15 and D-15S (own both), followed by 000-15SM...

BTW if you can't afford one of the USA-built Guild 12-strings, the MIC D-1212 has all the mojo that made Guilds the standard by which all other 12-strings are judged, for around $800 street - and if you never considered an all-hog 12 this one will almost certainly change your mind...

I am in the honeymoon phase of my new Iris RCM honduran mahogany 000 12 fret. Just got it back from a full set up last week and some of the tones coming from it are stunning like I have never heard before from a guitar. Adam did me good!

Have made sure I have a hogtop to play since I started playing around 2008. Started with a Larrivee L05MT. Really enjoyed that guitar. Had it a few years. Sold it to fund the purchase of a 90s vintage Martin 00017s. That was a wonderful guitar and it resides with a good friend and someone I got to know here on the forum. Get to play it a few times a year. That was followed by a Santa Cruz PJ. It has to be my favorite. Love playing the little guy and the tone and comfort make it a guitar that won’t be sold. A neighbor and good friend had a Guild M20 from the early or mid 60s that was very nice too.

WOW, that is a beauty...I bet it rings like a bell! I am really digging my newly acquired used 2020 000-15M Streetmaster...Whoever had it played it cause it has an enormously rich tone and lots of shinny rub spots. I recently found out through Martin that Streetmasters have a thinner finish and different stain used on them than the original 000-15M's have.

Beautiful guitar....I prefer slimmer fretboards because I play up the neck quite a bit and I have smaller hands. I started playing when most Martins had 1 11/16 nuts, so I am use to that. D-28's/D-18's were what I played for years.

I have read all of the mahogany favorites here and cannot believe that mine, the Waterloo WL 12Mh, hasn't even been mentioned. After owning several Martin 00 and 000 models, which I enjoyed but found somewhat lacking, I found the Waterloo and knew it was THE one.

So many builders only use the 1 3/4" nuts now since that seems to be the internet consensus. Like you, I am much more comfortable with a 1 11/16 nut. I had to return a Martin 000-28 a couple years back because I could not adapt to the 1 3/4" nut. My Alvarez Yairi FYM66HD is in between (1 23/32), and I'm hopeful I will continue adjusting to it - amazing the difference even 1/32 of an inch makes.
