That's a beauty Brad! I wish more people would learn to appreciate the tone of Oak. It's a wonderful tonewood IME. Accurately quartered sets, like yours, are not too shabby to look at either

What is the usual tone of oak? What common wood does it remind you of?
I agree that is is beautiful!

Pretty cool - saw your post over at OLF and it's a >26" scale? How is it tuned, B-b?

Man, gorgeous. But I bet it isn’t for the faint of heart. I imagine oak is heavy (and maybe like ebony in tone?) and a long scale 12 needs fingers of sterner stuff than mine.

I don't want to speak for Brad but IME its solidly in the mahogany camp but more balanced and even bass to treble. Mahogany usually has a mid range bias but not so with the White Oak that I have built with. I've never built with Red or Bog Oak.

What are your thoughts Brad?

Whoa, the cool factor here is off the charts! And as others have mentioned, that white oak is outstanding. Great job.

Yes, Tim my thoughts exactly.
I was thinking that it doesn’t really sound much different than the same exact guitars I build with the mahogany -very similar.
People have commented on how balanced it is.

The oak isn’t really all that heavy nowhere near Ebony though.
White oak is around 47 pounds per cubic foot and Ebony ranges 75 to 90 pounds per cubic foot.
Actually, isn’t too bad to play tune down to B or B-flat but I know what you mean

Hey Brad,

She is a beauty. I love when builders use "different" woods. I know sometimes it is hard to "market" them but kudos to you to get out of the box so to speak.

I have never tried oak before on a guitar. Perhaps I will give it try someday.

Great Job

Hi John,

Fortunately the "ladder braced" crowd is more accepting of different woods since the old Stellas,Regals, etc. routinely used them. Aside from oak, birch and poplar were typically used as well.
