Default What’s a good DADGAD song to start with?

I want to start learning to play in DADGAD (fingerstyle). What’s a good song to start with? Hopefully one that has a good YouTube tutorial.

Can't help you there. However...

If you drop that G to D and go with DADDAD, you'll be all set up to play Stephen Stills' 4+20.

Al Petteway, Arti Traum, as well as some others made tutorial videos...

I'd suggest Al Petteway's "Sligo Creek." It's the recurring theme from the National Parks Ken Burns documentary*. Al sells the tab for $5 on his (and Amy's) site. I didn't search out a tutorial.

* It is on Al's Mountain Guitar album, which is fantastic.

Larry Pattis' version of "Ashokan Farewell" is also a favorite of mine.

Doug Young has a couple of DADGAD books out including one of Christmas carols. While some of the reaches Doug has in his books are challenging to someone like me that has smaller hands, they are in general approachable by an intermediate player.

"While She Sleeps" from his Closing Time album (tab available) is a good one. "Curly-Q" is a bit more challenging.

Norwegian Wood works great flat picked in DADGAD. Capo at II if you want there original key.

This was the first DADGAD song I learned as well. I watched a demo where Al played it and loved the tune. I just had to go learn it, you know?

Many of the Irish tunes in Jim Tozier's Celtic Guitar Solos are lovely DADGAD arrangements as well.

Though it is a bit more challenging, Derek's "Three Steps to Joy" is also a great tune to play. Just got done playing it before I saw his post!

Richard Shindell's Wisteria or Reunion Hill would be a good intro to fingerpicking in DADGAD.

I would love to start with Sligo creek I can’t believe there’s not one tutorial on YouTube. I haven’t found a tab for it yet either
