Unless it is a tribute band playing and the exact costume is needed why does it matter that Joni played capoed at the 5th fret?

Play what you want. I am just saying that the original version is in open D with capo in 5th fret not open G.

Open D with capo on 5th fret... hmmm... now what key does that make it?

If you care to look at the tab, it is not in the strum style that Joni Mitchell plays it, but rather a guitar instrumental version.

yes, I know what key it is. But open D and open G are closely related. It is a subtle difference though.
I was only saying Joni plays it in open D.
When you play it for yourself you do what want of course.
