Is this basically a stripped down Doyle Dykes?

Not really.
It's actually a 612c, not a 614. And the neck is mahogany on this, maple on the DDSM's. No electronics. Also, check out the pics carefully -- do you actually see any abalone around the top perimeter?? NO! Only around the soundhole. My roommate has one of these Cottens and I just checked, no abalone on hers, either. Anybody want pics? Just ask. Nice little guitar though.

I guess I was influenced by the figured maple and florentine cutaway. I'm so easily led astray

it's easy to be led astray by a Taylor as pretty as that!
Even though not a DDSM, it is still a nice guitar. If it doesn't go too high................

I would think TJ would at least know the difference between a 612 and 614.
