Zoom A1 Four & DI

Hi there,
Using my 'Zoom A1 Four' into my Audient ID22 'DI' connection all works very well.
But I am wondering if anyone uses a preamp or DI after the 'A1 Four' and before the audio interface connection XLR connection. I've just tried it with an old 'Ultra DI D120' and it seems to make a difference... maybe because I am using the 'ID22' preamp also. My Ultra DI D120 - 48 volt power only works off the XLR interface connection. Would using a DI or an acoustic preamp improve the sound if so what models are you using..?
