Shake That Thing
Arr. by John Hurt and transcribed by Stefan Grossman. This is the first tune in a long book of Grossman’s MJH transcriptions that I’m digging into with my teacher. Should keep me busy until the weather is a lot warmer.
Luckily for me it doesn’t sound half bad at about half of the original tempo!

Great job Bob. You really have that authentic old time blues sound going there. Nice!

Thanks, Sal. That is my Farida, same model as yours. It was posts from you and Looburst (haven't heard from him lately) and a Toby Walker video that convinced me I didn't need to spend a whole lot more money on a Gibson to get the dry tone I was after. It is not the same sound as a Gibby, but I love it!

Kerbie, Glenn, Remy,
You guys are very kind to a novice! Kerbie, you are correct about the tune being done most famously by Papa Charlie Jackson. The Grossman book says it is a traditional that Jackson had a hit with in 1925. The book also says MJH never put it on a commercial recording. Stefan included a recording of MJH playing it at Stefan's house on the CD that comes with the book. But I believe it can now be found on a recording available on the streaming services (Amazon music has it) called Live at Oberlin College. Thanks again, guys!
