Harvey,
Your talent amazes me, I wish I had the skills/patience/artistry to do 1/10 of what you pull off. Lovely.

Jimmy

real nice harvey. I like how all these pieces can come together and make a scene.

I see the sun went down and the moon is out now

Sometime a guy just "see's" it different after the picture starts to come together. It looks great.

Have a great day.

Kevin.

We had 2 choices for the sky, the blue that you see or using an ebony fretboard that had some really cool white and yellow striping that looked just like a swirling sunset. Trevor decided he like the way the contrast of the blue really highlighted the scene a bit better than the more moody dark sky. FWIW.... it's actually a sun and not a moon but in truth... it's whatever the viewer thinks it is

1. The Manchinga proved to be quite challenging to bend into a cutaway... the first set of sides didn’t make it... the second set bent but there was a bit of “potato chipping” so I decided to laminate them to help smooth out the wrinkles. It’s a lot of extra work but I love the way laminated sides hold their shape.

2. The neck block is glued in place...

3. followed by the tail block...

4. and finally the side lining

5. Bridges

1. The braces are glued to the back

2. The sides are notched and the back is fitted to the rim.

3. The back is glued to the rim.

1. The top braces are glued in place

2. The front cross brace is glued to the neck block and kerfing is glued to the neck block for added support

3. The sides are notched for the braces.

4. The top is glued in place

1. Fresh out of the press!

2. Top and back trimmed to size

3. This is how cool the back will look against the spalted rosette.

4. The view from the back.

Harvey - on your head block picture you are creating a pocket. Is this for an adjustable neck? Or just the way you bolt on?

Nice pics...I like the laminated sides.

Have a great day.

Folding neck

In case you didn't know harv invented the folding "voyage air" guitar. Greatest guitar invention since steel strings IMO

ooohhh...k...I did not know that. Sorry for the stoopid question. I do know he has a folding neck model...didn't know this was it.

There is another guy who does the guitar "break down too"? who is that?

Have a great day ZekeM - thanks.

Kevin.

Default Harvey Leach Southwest for TAMCO UK

Hey it's not stupid. Everyone can't know everything. I don't know of anyone else who does a folding neck unless you are referring to "voyage air" which is Harv and a business partner. They are mass produced whereas a leach voyage air is hand built by Harv. Hopefully one day I'll be able to afford one by Harv. It'll be pricey though, because if I'm having a guitar built by Harvey leach its gonna have plenty of inlay!

By the way that is some sweet spalted machinga! This guitar is going to be fantastic! Such a shame it's gotta go all the way to the UK where I'll never get the chance to see it.

Actually this one won't fold.... at least not on purpose . The neck block was designed for the original Voyage Airs but I use it on everything now, the shelf really supports that area of the top well. I also bolt down the fretboard extension so the pocket is for that as well. The imported VG's don't use this neck block because they are glued in rather than bolted on.

1. Cavity for the butt wedge is routed

2. Wedge glued in place. Spalted maple is interesting because thin CA glue dries almost instantly with smoke and everything so I have to use med viscosity.

3. The binding ledges are routed using specially equipped routers that guide off the side rather than the top and back.

4. & 5. The dark Koa binding is glued and held in place with rubber bands until the glue dries.

6. Really like the contrast between the spalted maple, Manchinga and the Koa...
